What do Shooting Star Children’s Hospices mean to us, and why have WE chosen to support them?
Whether we are parents or not, we can all imagine the shock and pain that is felt when your child is given a life-limiting diagnosis. The world closes in and it can feel as though your life is over, yet you must appear strong and believe there is hope. While there is always hope, it is in the still and darkness of those hours just before dawn, when fears come to haunt us. No one understands what we are going through. Why is life carrying on for everyone else?
It is for these reasons that WE have chosen to support Shooting Star Children’s Hospices; a charity which cares for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families. Whether lives are measured in days, weeks, months, or years, they’re there to make every moment count.
How Shooting Star Children’s Hospices support families
Shooting Star Children’s Hospices support the entire family – parents, siblings and grandparents – as they come to terms with the journey they all must take. The charity provides expert medical care which inevitably changes and gets more complex over time, and they deliver this care in a safe home-from-home environment at their hospices, offering bespoke support to 700 families across Surrey and west London.
The services they provide are entirely free to all those in need. But, with only 30% of funding coming from the government, the shortfall must be raised by its supporters. WE feel honoured that WE can go some way in helping to narrow this gap and feel great pride in being able to contribute and make a difference.
How WE will support Shooting Star Children’s Hospices
Throughout 2023, WE will support Shooting Star Children’s Hospices by donating a percentage from every placement WE make. WE will also be holding charity fundraising/volunteer days, and all proceeds from our summer event, Retail on the Thames, will go directly to the hospices. WE look forward to working with Shooting Star Children’s Hospices throughout the year to raise as much as WE can for the cause.
